Arisaema sikokianum, patterned leaves

$25.00

Known among gardening cognescenti for years, Arisamea sikokianum is one of the crown jewels of the spring woodland garden. This arisaema is truly one of the most striking and beautiful plants in the world. Its Japanese name (yuki-mochi-shô) refers to the snow white coloring of the spadix. Emerging in spring to a height of 18" this species has a dark purple spathe enclosing the pure white marshmallow looking spadix. The inflorescence is held erect over the twin five-lobed leaves splashed with pewter mottling down the center of the leaves. Arisamea sikokianum needs excellent drainage and prefers a drier site, easiest in raised beds. Native to the Japanese island of Shikoku. This arisaema does not make offsets. To increase chances of arisaema seed production, you need to grow more than one. Section Pistillata. Hardy in zones 5-9.
