Arisaema thunbergii

We’ve become quite fond of this Japanese species that comes from its southern islands. As dramatic as any because of the intense glossy, much divided leaf and sinister dark purple-brown spathe. We have seen a great deal of variations amongst this plant with some forms have almost a lacquer appearance to the leaves. The leaves are narrower than on the variety urashima. The interior spadix has a long appendage that dangles down to the ground. It creates many offsets throughout the year so be prepared for a good population over years. Well draining, humus rich soil for best results. Zones 5-9
