This is the unstable variegated form of the easy-to-grow Japanese Wild Ginger, Asarum caulescens. The leaves are heart-shaped with distinct deep veins and yellow splashing (unstable) with low to the ground light pink flowers in spring. As with all unstable variegated plants you will need to keep an eye out for pieces that may or have reverted to all green. These should be removed and can be planted out on their own. This would make a nice addition to the mini hosta bed or area where a small scale ground cover is asked for. As with all Asian plants (I seem to say this a lot), it greatly benefits from superb drainage… and if you are looking for long term reliability, it is a must. Light to medium shade and moist, humus-rich, free-draining soil. Zones 4-8
