Very choice and beautiful plant from Honshu, Japan that is a relative of epimediums. The flowers start blooming at ground level and are a soft lavender-pink held in small clusters rising to about 18″ in spring, followed by white berries in fall. The foliage, borne just after flowering, is soft green and made up of a number of smaller leaflets. Forms tight colonies from a branching rootstock. Best in a humus rich, moisture-retentive soil (there’s that position again) with good drainge (think raised bed). Despite its appearance, not at all fussy. Plant, let it root in and give it a couple years to go to work. Does appreciate a position where it will not get wind damaged. Zone 4-8
