Trillium smallii var. maximowicz, also known as Trillium amabile. If you collect Trillium, this is for you. Exceedingly rare and often confused with Trillium apetalon. Large, bright green leaves with purple-red flowers that DO have both petals and sepals. Trillium apetalon having no sepals what-so-ever. Occuring only on the seashore of two Japanese islands. Fully hardy and as easy as any Trillium. Zones 5-8
